A GOOD OLE BIOGRAPHY

In actuality, I am made up of vector shapes and typography.

Just a Bit About Myself

My name is Scott Gerard Francisco and I am a graphic designer. I am a recent graduate of the University of Arizona and I earned a BFA in Visual Communcations with an emphasis in Graphic Design. I am an Asian Pacific American (Filipino to be specific) born and raised in California with a love for: basketball, greasy food, hip-hop, videogames, 90's Saturday morning cartoons, family and friends, and of course—graphic design.

It all started when I was born in Southern California. I grew up a pretty average kid—I played videogames, watched cartoons, tried some sports, and went to school. Fast forward to the present, and I am pretty much still a kid at heart. I am an avid Los Angeles sports fan—I gotta cheer for my Lakers and Dodgers (and occasionally the LA Kings)! I also gotta follow my alma mater of course—go Wildcats! But, there is more to me than just sports. I still love cartoons, videogames, anime, and toys—especially toys. I've loved toys since I was but a wee child. All of these things bring me joy and make life just a little bit easier.

As of now, I currently reside in the greater Los Angeles area. I am the proud owner of a Pembroke-Cardigan Welsh Corgi by the name of Carlton (Not after Ritz, but after Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air).

My Path to Graphic Design

Design is something that I found a love for in my earlier years sometime around elementary school. It started when I would tinker around in Photoshop 5.0 I think it was. I would play around with anime images and I would play around with it just like I would MS Paint (I didn't know its real capabilities yet).

Around middle school is when tinkering became a hobby. I dabbled in making graphics for numerous message boards (videogames, anime, Counter-Strike), and even made a few websites (made completelty out of tables. yup, that long ago). I also made numerous computer wallpapers as well. This continued on through high school and I knew it was something I could possibly do for a living when I finished college—although I wasn't completely sure.

Enter college. I was still pretty unsure about what I really wanted to do with my life after high school. I chose to attend The University of Arizona in hopes to gain a real university experience (Also, my oldest brother attended the U of A so I figured, “Why not?”). I started out Pre-Business, but eventually after two years, it just wasn't working. At this time I decided I needed a change in my life. I knew I wanted to become a graphic designer. It was something I grew up doing and had a fun time doing it! So, I applied to the art college and—what was supposed to be four years of school turning into six—I finally finished with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications with an emphasis in Graphic Design. University life was not without its ups and downs, but I pushed my way through it.

The two years in Pre-Business were years I will never be able to get back, but I knew in my heart I wanted to design. I don't believe that I chose the easy route—in fact it was anything but. But, that was in the past and all that matters now is that I love to create. I love being inspired by seeing other types of graphic design, illustration, typography, etc. At the end of it all, I am proud to call myself a graphic designer.

My name is Scott Gerard Francisco. I have an affinity for simple and clean design, but still I have a great appreciation for all kinds of graphic design. As a graphic designer, I can be versatile and my goal is to create design that is functional as well as aesthetically appealing.
